Constant sun -- too much of a good thing?

Too much sunlight in places like Greenland where long summer days often cause insomnia appears more likely to drive a person to suicide, Swedish researchers said Friday.

Despite a belief that suicides tend to rise in late autumn and early winter months because of darkness, the new findings suggest that places where constant sunlight in summer seasons is a fact of life may be just as dangerous.

New cream may help treat types of melanoma

Topical cream studied as way to treat skin cancer without the knife

ST. LOUIS – In a case study of a type of melanoma skin cancer typically found on chronically sun-exposed skin, Saint Louis University researchers found that imiquimod, a topical cream, produced good results for patients when used together with surgery to treat the cancer, potentially helping doctors cut less.

New study confirms risk of sunbeds

Skin cancer amongst sunbed users has gone up three times in the last ten years, a recent insight has shown. Nearly 100 patients are dying annually due to cancer caused by sun beds.

Brunettes may still be at high risk for skin cancer

Brunettes who do not burn easily in the sun can still be at high risk of developing deadly skin cancer, a new study shows. Scientists warned that they should not feel more confident about sunbathing than fair-skinned blondes, after they discovered a gene variant which increases the chance of developing melanoma more than two fold.
